heads the new Quezon City
Chamber of Commerce and

Is The Philippines ready for medical tourism (MT), or are her Asian neighbors ready to embrace her as friendly competitor in best MT destination?
Yes, The Philippines is ready. Oo. Opo. Handang-handa na ang Pilipinas.
No, The Philippines is not ready. Hindi pa handa ang Pilipinas.
Maybe Yes, Maybe No. Siguro? Marahil?
Health, Tourism, Trade and Industry programs for MT are yet to synchronize. Watak ang mga programa.
Synergy of purpose and action by big and small MT players is the way to go. Magkaisa na.
Neighboring Asia is ready to embrace The Philippines as friendly competitor in MT. Ok lang.
Who cares (Care bears)? Malay namin; pakialam namin.
Let's pray for the "dot-com in the worldwideweb map" fondly called The Philippines. Manalangin tayo.
God bless us all! Pagpalain tayong lahat sa Asya ng Dakilang Lumikha.

                                                                     MEDICAL versus SPA,
                                                            EVIDENCE versus EXPERIENCE

“First Filipino health retailer in the Philippine private sector,” Dr Hernando B Delizo of the Healthcare
Business Development Partners, in his talks on “Strategies in Repackaging Destinations for Health &
Wellness… How to Attract Global Patients,” made an aggressive sales pitch in Malaysia –
without much
help from the Philippine government nor from the Philippine private hospital sector
– regarding the seven
thousand seven hundred and seventy-seven reasons why The Philippines is “it” in medical travel, with
the world-renowned compassion of the Filipino here, there and everywhere as prime commodity.

“Experience the compassion of the Filipino doctors, nurses and caregivers,” the scholastic entrepreneurial
physician who graduated with honors from the first and oldest medical school in The Philippines
(UST or University of Santo Tomas, older than Harvard or Yale) and who founded The Philippines’ first
ambulatory clinic in a mega shopping mall (Clinica Manila), The Philippines first private care homes,
not an NGO nor a foundation (Wellness Place), The Philippines’ first diagnostic center that opened its
laboratories to public view (Mediserv), and other medical entrepreneurships, was saying in his
presentation.

Dr Delizo was a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) classmate of The Philippines’ Secretary of the
Department of Tourism (DOT) in the Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) Business School, a premier
business educational institution in The Philippines. The Tourism Secretary’s consultant, Megan Collins,
was in constant talks with Dr Delizo during the congress.

Doctors from Singapore, India and other countries questioned Dr Delizo and they rose to advance a
more comprehensive discussion on the hot and ticklish issues of medical versus spa and of
evidence versus experience in, respectively, the medical health sciences and wholistic & holistic
medical disciplines.

During that final hours when the congress was closing, session hours had to be extended in order to
“resolve” the issues raised, if not to calendar the resolution of the issues in the next congresses.

Foreign national friends of the Filipino people, Ms Collins, a Canadian, and Ms Renu Gidoomal,
a London-born and bred Indian singer-therapist who founded Amezcua Wellness System in Manila,
took the cudgels from Dr Delizo – a little big Filipino like the United Nations’ Carlos P Romulo –
so that to “dexify (
defend, explain and justify)” the ultimate fusion of medical health sciences and
health spas, as well as evidence- and experience-based medicine, that is happening in The Philippines,
which Asians, Americans, Australians, Arabians, Africans and other citizens of the world are cordially
invited to “come (second) home to” this 21st century, that is, the Aian Century.

Ms Gidoomal assisted Dr Delizo in a pre-congress workshop on How to Operate a Successful Medispa
where woven into the Clinica Manila expertise and experiences are the Amezcua model and
The Belo Group successful model for a medispa business management, operations and marketing
endeavors in The Philippines. Belo CEO Eric Soriano was at hand to witness the publicity, promotion
and market communication of the medispa of Dr Delizo’s co-UST colleague, Dra Vicki Belo, the medical
director behind the Belo Group success, in the Delizo presentation of The Philippines as a preferred
desti
nation of medical travel.
