Is The Philippines ready for medical tourism (MT), or are her Asian neighbors ready to embrace her as friendly competitor in best MT destination?
Yes, The Philippines is ready. Oo. Opo. Handang-handa na ang Pilipinas.
No, The Philippines is not ready. Hindi pa handa ang Pilipinas.
Maybe Yes, Maybe No. Siguro? Marahil?
Health, Tourism, Trade and Industry programs for MT are yet to synchronize. Watak ang mga programa.
Synergy of purpose and action by big and small MT players is the way to go. Magkaisa na.
Neighboring Asia is ready to embrace The Philippines as friendly competitor in MT. Ok lang.
Who cares (Care bears)? Malay namin; pakialam namin.
Let's pray for the "dot-com in the worldwideweb map" fondly called The Philippines. Manalangin tayo.
God bless us all! Pagpalain tayong lahat sa Asya ng Dakilang Lumikha.

PCCI-NCR Defines Business Wellness in the 16th Metro
Manila Business Conference

OVER 300 CEOs
representing major business organizations in The Philippines are set to converge for
the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI)-National Capital Region (NCR)’s
16th Metro Manila Business Conference (MMBC) on July 31 to August 1 at the Sofitel Philippine
Plaza Hotel to define “business wellness” and spread its gospel.

PCCI-NCR is the 16-chamber-strong Metro Manila Chambers of Commerce and Industry
(MMCCI) comprised by the North, Central and South regions, with the five chambers of Quezon City,
Manila, Mandaluyong, Marikina and Pasig under the central region as hosts of this year’s 16th MMBC.
The two-day conference, rallying for the theme “One. Global. Filipino. Business Wellness Amidst
Global Challenges,” will be teed off on the 30th of July by an early-morning golf tournament at the
Orchard Golf and Country Club, Dasmarinas, Cavite, led by new PCCI President, Edgardo G Lacson,
who will do the awarding of prizes during lunch.
Conference proper on the next day (31st of July) is preceded by a morning invitational “Chamber
Management Seminar” organized by Philippine Chamber Development Institute (PhilCDI) and
assisted by Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) and opens in the afternoon with Manila Mayor
Alfredo C Lim welcoming the delegates, Commission on Higher Education (CHEd)’s Romulo L Neri
keynoting the first day of the confab, and Ambassador Alfredo Yao presenting the 34th Philippine
Business Conference (in October 2008) during dinner.
Senator Manuel L Villar graces the gala dinner on the second day (1st of August) with the
presentation and adoption of the 16th MMBC Conference Resolutions by Atty Gregorio M Batiller Jr
declared before dinner, after the open forum in the afternoon, but the bulk of talks and discussions by
resource
persons on the business wellness of many disciplines happen during the day. Local chamber
presidents meet over breakfast with the PCCCI and the MMCCI Board first hour on the second day.
Francis Lim of Philippine Stock Exchange will try to define for PCCI-NCR 16th Metrobiz confab
collective the new mantra called “business wellness,” as its major advocates in the healthcare sector,
notably, Hernando B Delizo, MD, Conrad Perreras et al would envision it done in corporate world
and workplaces.
Beginning on the first day of the confab, however, Dr Francis C Felizardo of Holchim Philippines
starts the ball of business wellness ideals rolling by discussing the potentials of “Sustainable
Construction” that impact on the environment. Josiah L Go of Mansmith & Fielders, on the second
day of the confab, sustains the business wellness talks by tackling “Blue Ocean Strategy during
Challenging Times.” Senen Bacani of Filipinas Palm Oil Industries seconds the motion of Mr Go by
featuring “Food Security: Opportunities for Urban Agriculture” in his presentation. Dr Delizo of Clinica
Manila by Ambulatory Healthcare Institute and Healthcare Business Development Partners climaxes the
confab’s initial momentum by highlighting “Opportunities in Global Health and Wellness” in his paper.
Perreras of  Wellness Organization Worldwide caps it on with talks on “Employee Health is Business
Wealth: Implications on Productivity.”

The confab also highlights Melito S Salazar Jr of Manila Bulletin on other investment opportunities,
Adrian S Cristobal of Intellectual Property Philippines gives out a mouthful of tips and advice on
“Enhancing Competitiveness through Intellectual Property,” while a panel of leaders and experts
will venture to the PCCI body their prognosis of what Philippine business may be and become
next year and beyond. PCCI Chairman Emeritus, Ambassador Donald G Dee, leads the panel of
resource persons in “Addressing Industry Mismatch for Gainful Employment.” Meneleo J Carlos Jr
of RI Chemical Corp expresses the manufacturing industry position on current and future economic
situations. All this and more are moderated by Pasay Chamber’s Dr Mina T Gabor of PhilSMED.

Philippine chamber movement stalwarts, not necessarily in this order of import, Antonio C Keh,
Nora L Lacuna, Edgardo G Lacson, Angelito L Coloma, Samie Lim et al are making the confab
happen this year.
The current global economic turmoil sets the background for the 2008 PCCI-NCR 16th Metro Manila
Business Conference, emceed by MMCCI Secretary-General Pedro C Dumana Jr and Paraòaque CCI
President Alexander L Flores. Hence, any business owner and manager would have to contend with
these challenges and still attain business wellness, promises this year’s confab.
